Opera-Go-Round is a traveling children's opera produced each year by Tri-Cities Opera. In addition to the normal production challenges for a small-budget children's opera, Opera-Go-Round has the added challenge that the resident artist singers load-in the set themselves. Jack and the Beanstalk is framed as a read narrative, so we chose to create a storybook set that was easy to transport and set up, created a contiguous series of backdrop for each of the three locations, and encourage books as a form of entertainment and learning. |

As you can see in the drafting, we paid as much attention to the simplicity of transport in the design as we did to the function of the book during performance and the painted scenes.
The scenes were inspired particularly by Bob Ross landscapes and the art in Tomm Moore's Secret of Kells. |
